What the United States from Spain Envy
"There are three words that have become fashionable in recent months: health, crisis and sustainability." Thus began the conference organized by IDE-CESEM an exceptional speaker: Ms. Isabel Barreiro, which was reviewed for a little over an hour and a half to thirty alumni and guests from the business school prospects, challenges and opportunities in the Spanish health system. Isabel Barreiro (who headed the Office of the Minister of Health of the Community of Madrid from 2007-2010 and currently holds a senior position within Glaxo Smith Kline) presented some figures on our health sector, health spending increases experienced by the different countries of the European Union and identified as possible causes that justify the increase in spending:
The higher the income, we demand the best and latest technologies sanitariasTenemos very demandanteEl population aging processes prevalence poblaciónLa crónicosInnovación
Responsibility in the sanitary
Isabel Barreiro who said that "we must be more responsible in the use of our health," adding that "our health system offers a comprehensive set of services in primary care, specialty care, public health and pharmacy." He noted that "health spending in Spain is below the average for OECD countries" and that's not true that our doctors charge much, or that they consume a lot of pharmacy. "In fact there has been a very aggressive policy in the reduction of drugs and medications we currently are among the lowest in the European Union."
He noted that we have to be less demanding and stop and think because we are stretching our health system so that we can stay without it. He said that we should be more respectful of our doctors know what treatments cost (and put the case of PET, a type of medical scanner that costs about 800 euros) and coordinate policies between regions it is evident that "There is a problem of resources and we must tackle it as such."
Generic vs. Brand Drugs On this issue, Isabel Barreiro had it clear in stating that since the investigation is so expensive, they must learn to live together in harmony. Upon which he said we must not forget "that exists because there is a generic brand.'s Okay to try to be efficient and spend less, but when there is a brand that costs the same as a generic why we have to purchase generic?" attendees raised during the debate that took place after the conference.
Copayment Is the solution?
The copayment is intended as an additional source of funding can ensure that services are not consumed the lowest value not to affect health. As such, the copayment also has its drawbacks among which noted the following:
You can get to become tributo.Pueden cause deviations of behavior (Going to primary care instead of going to the emergency room.) Poor choices (do not go to the doctor.) Can break the fairness of the system.
Decentralization of health resources
Isabel Barreiro was emphatic in saying that if awarded a good service to the regions that is the healing. And he pointed out that the problem was "lack of economic resources and not a problem of decentralization." Also critical was the Ministry of Health, which said "lacked leadership, coordination and give her time to the drug policy"
Javier Zardoya (Director General of IDE-CESEM) responsible for closing the conference praised Isabel Barreiro whom he defined as an excellent professional and a great friend and appealed to the need to "copy and export the management of our health system to other business sectors in which we are not a model of efficiency. " Isabel finally thanked its presence in IDE-CESEM.
